ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC will attempt to retain two league titles on Sunday.

The Chester and Ellesmere Port club's U15 boys' and U15 girls' squads will be hoping for a repeat success in the opening round of the North West Sportshall League at Deeside College, Connah's Quay (1pm start).

West Cheshire U15s are also keen to retain their title, after they were triumphant at Kingsway Sports Centre, Widnes, earlier this year.

The U15 girls' squad in particular looks exceptionally strong, with sprinters Sian Kelman, Shona Valentine, Emily Done, Daisy Flynn-Piercy and Bryony Potter being joined by team mates Stephanie Owen, Rebecca Grimes, Georgina Wright and Kerry Riley.

Meanwhile, West Cheshire's U11s and U13s will also be in action at Connah's Quay in a match hosted by Deeside AAC.

First round will also feature Stock-port, Sutton St Helens, Crewe and Nantwich, Warrington, Prestatyn and Vale Royal in an eight-team event.

Action gets under way at 1pm but members of West Cheshire AC are being requested to assemble no later than 12.15pm.

Final Sportshall practice for West Cheshire AC members ahead of the first round match at Deeside will be held at Stanney High Sportshall, Ellesmere Port this Saturday, from 10am-noon.

West Cheshire AC members can get further details about the opening round from Dennis Wall on (0151) 201 1254, or Jenny Manning on (0151) 339 9013.

Fixtures this weekend include the first round of the North Staffs Cross Country League being staged at Apedale Country Park, Stone.

The City of Liverpool 10k Road Race takes place on Sunday, the same day as the Congleton Half Marathon which incorporates the Cheshire County Championships.

Entry forms are now available for next year's Shell 25th Four Villages Half Marathon, which will take place at Helsby, on Sunday, January 22. Entry is limited to 2,500 runners.
