THE Cheshire Schools Track & Field Champion-ship heralded some South Cheshire success stories and a string of newly crowned county schools champions on Saturday.

The English Schools Athletic Association (ESAA) event saw Sandbach High's Katy Phipps win the final of the inter girls 300m in an impressive 44.1 seconds and Coppenhall High's Sammie McGowan comfortably see off the competition in the inter girls javelin.

Sandbach's Rob Blake came first in the junior boys 100 metres and 17-year-old Coppen-hall ace Stevie Stockton finished a creditable second in the senior girls 1,500m behind Ellesmere Port's Emma Heighway.

Joshua Kinch, of Alsager, beat off nine other hopefuls to be crowned junior boys 800m champion and South Cheshire produced the top three in the junior boys long jump final.

J Barard reached 5.40 metres, C Turner 5.16 and J East 5.07 to comfortably see off the competition while J Daw was crowned champion in the junior girls long jump.

Coppenhall's Jessica Heath won the inter girls long jump with 4.88m and M Wilson was victorious in the inter girls shot event. The inter girls discus was won by L Hall and H Jones romped home to be senior girls 400m champion.
