DEESIDE Ramblers enjoyed a derby to remember on Saturday as their 4-1 demolition of visitors Chester clinched the Division One championship.

More than 150 people were estimated to have watched the clash at Deeside's Tiverton base.

Ramblers opened the scoring through the long-serving Hedley Pollard, who deceived both Chester and his own side with a reverse sweep which found the bottom corner.

Geoff Price and Stuart Roberts then both scored from penalty corners to create a points cushion to allow the Ramblers to relax.

In the second half, Chester threw everything at Deeside but for every cute pass or through ball, there was a Ramblers player there to intercept or break the move down.

When they did get shots in, Ramblers keeper Stuart Symms always seemed to get something in the way.

Deeside made it 4-0 when Stuart Roberts found himself with an opportunity and flicked the ball home. Chester scored a consolation goal late on and can still join Deeside in the Premiership next term if they secure second spot.

Deeside seconds mounted a spirited fightback against Chester seconds after going 2-0 down at half time.

Despite conceding a third, two goals from Pete Skerret plus one from Phil Johnson were enough for the draw.

Deeside thirds put Wigan to the sword 4-0.

Ben Lamont scored a hat-trick and Phil Winward the other as the Ramblers managed a comfortable win over their guests.

Goals from Jamie Allen (3), Nick Fernall, Rob Whittle, Miles Lewis and Steve Williams handed Deeside's seventh team a 7-0 win over their Chester counter parts.

* Despite their endeavours over the weekend Deeside still managed to send a team to the Northwich Swimathon where

they raised more than £200 for various charities. n Anyone interested in playing hockey with Deeside Ramblers can call Howard or Dilys Dodds on 01244 300392.
