Deeside Dragons have captured the signature of Filip Supa from Laidler Conference rivals Widnes Wild.
Supa was amongst the league’s highest scorers last season, bagging a remarkable 80 points in just 34 games and follows defenceman Matt Wainwright in joining the Flintshire side.
Those players above Supa in the standings last season have all been promoted to the higher level – leaving Supa as a leading contender next year.
Dragons head coach, Lol Paul, is delighted to have secured the Slovakian’s signature. He said: “Filip is the sort of guy who can win games for us, and hopefully, give us a chance of challenging for the title next season.
“I have been talking to him for a couple of weeks and he’s really keen to get involved in what we’re doing here.
"At just 26, Filip is starting to hit his peak as a player and he’ll be a real standout guy for us. The other big advantage is that he can pass his skills onto the other guys in our squad. That way, the entire team benefits from his experience.”
Last season saw Supa’s goals take Widnes to the verge of promotion to the Moralee Conference, before missing out in the play-off. And with the Dragons squad now starting to take shape, Paul expects Supa to be another leader – both on and off the ice.
“The team I am putting together will have quite a few leaders who can help bring along the youngsters,” Paul added.
“Filip will be a big part of that. If we’re going to challenge near the top of the league, then we will need cool heads.
“There will be times when things don’t go our way, but with these guys coming on board, those times should be few and far between.
“I can’t wait to see the whole squad together for pre-season training. The trials we’ve held over the last few weeks have been a real eye-opener."
The Dragons will also reveal plans for season tickets within the next week, as well as own and loan shirts.
