ATHLETICS: TWO West Cheshire AC members won North of England vests at the weekend. Nicola Gore and Laura Bestow made their debuts for the North against the South and the Midlands in an Under-20 Inter-Regional Track and Field Match held at Woodside Park, Watford.

Nicola smashed her personal best in the discus to finish third with a throw of 33.88m, and grabbed fifth spot in the shot with a best put of 10.53m.

And Laura finished fourth in the 3,000m in a time of 10 minutes 54.3 seconds.

The West Cheshire AC duo were part of a quartet from the county who had travelled south for the event.

They were joined by Becky Ellis from Vale Royal AC, who finished second in the 3,000m with 10:09.4, and Macclesfield's Elliott O'Neill who produced a long jump of 6.65m.

West Cheshire AC travel to Bury on Sunday for a Cheshire Track and Field League meeting.

Members and parents are being encouraged to go along. A coach will leave Stanney High School at 10.30am and Chester County Officers, Upton, at 10.45am, for anyone wanting to travel to the event.

West Cheshire AC will face Wallasey AC, East Cheshire AC, Altrincham AC, Vale Royal AC and hosts Bury AC at the fixture.

* Road runners aiming to clock a fast 10k time and currently seeking a fixture should look no further than West Cheshire AC's Sutton Six 10k Road Race being held at Guilden Sutton, near Chester, on Sunday, September 21 (11am start). * The next West Cheshire AC committee meeting will be held at Whitby Sports and Social Club, on Tuesday (8.15pm start).

* West Cheshire AC will host two of the four rounds in this winter's North West Sportshall Athletics League.

They will stage the opening round on Sunday, September 28, at the EPIC, Ellesmere Port; and the EPIC will be the setting for round three on Sunday, November 16.

Other rounds involving West Cheshire AC take place on Sunday, October 19, at Robin Park, Wigan, and on Sunday, January 25 at Deeside.

* Forthcoming fixtures include the final round of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix Races at Shotton, which takes place tonight (7pm start).

* The Summer Multi-Terrain League will be staged throughout September on Tuesday evenings.
