ATHLETICS: SOUTH Cheshire duo Stevie Stockton and Hayley Jones were in scintillating form as they both blitzed to county records at the Cheshire Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

The talented pair, both members of Vale Royal AC, set new standards in their events. Nantwich girl Hayley, 16, who attends Malbank School, set a new record of 41.48 seconds in winning the U17 Girls 300m final.

The result was inside the English Schools Qualifying time, and she added U17 Girls 100m gold to her tally for good measure later on.

Coppenhall School pupil Stevie, 15, obliterated the previous U17 Girls 3K record by 44 seconds as she took gold in the event. Her time of 10:22.79 was four seconds inside the English Schools Qualifying time.

The pair were among the highlights of a fantastic day for Vale Royal AC, who netted 22 golds overall. Coach Shaun McGrath said: 'It is quite amazing what these girls are doing.

'To get an English Schools qualifying time is incredibly hard at the best of times, so to notch them with ease is very unusual.' nSouth Cheshire Harriers hosted their first ever treasure hunt around Sandbach on Sunday.

The winning team, called Crams, consisted of Ann Garnett, Lizzy Marshall, Dave and Lesley Rowlands and Mel Cole. Cindy Morrissette organised the event.

Meanwhile, Mike Cutler, Mike Hatton, Martin Stirna and Colin and Gael Earp took part in the first Stoke-on-Trent City Park Grand Prix 5k event of the season, at Long-ton Park last Tuesday. Hatton came an outstanding seventh.

Cutler and Stirna ran the Christleton 5k on Friday, and Cutler competed in the Cholmondeley Cross-Country Charity 5k event on Saturday.
