DAVE Alexander finished third with a time of 27 minutes and 19 seconds at the opening round of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix Series.

He was followed home by West Cheshire AC colleagues Graham Earlam (14th in 29:12), Gary Withers (18th in 30:05), Tony Kennedy (41st in 34:59), Brian Hastings (42nd in 35:10), Christopher Gain (48th in 35:52), Mark Povey (53rd in 37:15), Andrew Hetherington (55th in 37:28), Brian Beattie (62nd in 38:56) and Charles Thackray (75th in 42:28).

The next round is scheduled to be held at Shotton Sports and Social Club on July 5 (7.30pm start).

Fixtures this weekend include the Young Athletes Track and Field League Northern Premier Division fourth round at Macclesfield on Sunday.

She is now getting ready for the AAAs championship at Bedford at the weekend where she will race head-to-head with club-mate Stevie Stockton.
