THREE-TIME women’s world darts champion Anastasia Dobromyslova was a special guest on Sunday as the Cheshire Phoenix entertained the Durham Wildcats.

The Russian, who lives in Ellesmere Port, met the team before their BBL Championship match against Durham Wildcats and admitted she was already a fan of basketball.

“I watch it when I can on TV,” she said. “But it’s hard to find time to watch any sport as I’m so busy.”

It is no surprise she is in demand. The 28-year-old, who is originally from Tver but moved to Ellesmere Port after striking up a romance with her now husband Tony Martin, is the dominant force in women’s darts after winning her third world title at the Lakeside Country Club earlier this month.

She revealed that when she meets people from other sports, there is a common bond.

“Everyone who is in sport wants to win and achieve what they want so we are all just the same really,” she said.

“To be fair I can understand any sportsperson, no matter what they achieve, because I know when you are in sport you have to work so hard and I think we all appreciate each other.”
