EQUESTRIANISM: THOUSANDS flocked to the Roodee for one of the landmark events in the British showjumping calendar.

Organisers of the fourth annual Chester City Horse Show were delighted to see between 3,000 and 4,000 people come through the doors during the four-day event.

There were 700 horse entries and many leading riders took part.

The £15,000 showpiece event - the City of Chester UK Open Championship - was won by Belgium's Mick Mottmans on Spartacus on Sunday.

Warrington-based Welshman Andrew Davies, riding Picasso, won the sport horse blue ribband event, which is a qualifier for the Horse of the Year Show.

Press officer Debra Hargrave said: 'This was our fourth year, and it was the most successful so far. The number of entries we had was enormous.

'It was a truly outstanding event.'
