YOUNG athletes achieved medal-winning performances at the final round of the West Cheshire AC schools cross country series.

The annual series, based at Stanney Oaks, features runners from the Ellesmere Port, Chester and Helsby areas.

Tarporley High School duo Sophie Hemingbrough and Katie Clarke won the Year 7 and Y8 girls titles respectively, while Kate Kenworthy (Tarporley Primary) won the overall Y5 girls crown despite finishing fourth at the final round behind winner Rhona Cook (Upton Heath).

Utkinton’s Issy Clarke completed a clean sweep of race series victories to claim the Y6 girls title, while Tamsin O’Keefe won the Y4 girls title despite being absent from the final round race won by Anna Crayston (Tarporley), who finished second overall in the series.

Acresfield’s Hannah Ferguson won the Y3 girls title after winning the final race to complete a hat-trick of race series victories. Dylan Bugg (Tarporley) was crowned Y3 boys race series winner, despite finishing second in the final round behind Tarporley’s Aaron James.

Charlie Potts (Helsby Hillside) won the overall Y4 boys title despite being absent from the final race, won by Liam Farrell (Our Lady’s).

Sonny Dean (Helsby Hillside) secured his fourth consecutive race win to take the Y5 boys crown, and Sam Grinter took the overall Y6 boys title despite being ill for the final race which was won by Jac Goodall (Mickle Trafford).

Jac finished as runner-up overall.

Joseph Morrison (Ellesmere Port Catholic High) and Evan Roberts (Tarporley) finished joint winners overall in the Y7 competition after Roberts won the final race, just 17 seconds ahead of Morrison.
