A BOLD Gareth Boys is targeting promotion with Ellesmere Port this season.
The Whitby Sports & Social Club outfit only survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last time out.
But their captain believes they will be battling it out at the top of Cheshire Alliance Division One come the end of the 2012 campaign.
Boys said: “From what I’m seeing on the table there’s only Haslington who should pose a threat.
“They’re a strong side with some good players but we beat them last season.
“With us, we know the wheels can come off and we can screw up.
“But if we can stand strong together as an XI, and get the same XI out there for 18 out of the 22 games, then we can win the league, no problem.
“But if we can’t get promotion, then we should definitely make the top five.”
Port get their league programme under way on Saturday away to neighbours Frodsham.
Frodsham was the scene of Boys’ side dramatic victory on the final day of last season.
Port have retained the majority of the players from that match – which secured their safety – and have boosted their ranks by promoting two young brothers from the 2nds.
Wicketkeeper Matty Hyndman and opening bowler Peter Hyndman have made the step up after impressing at the club’s winter nets sessions at the Old Trafford indoor cricket centre.
Neston, led by new captain David Hurst, open their Cheshire County League Premier Division season away to Widnes on Saturday.
