A THUMPING home win kept Ellesmere Port firmly in the Cheshire Alliance Division Two promotion chase.

They racked up a 114-run win over lowly Knutsford on Saturday, batting first and posting 178-4. Paul Isaacs hit 62 for the third-placed hosts.

Knutsford were then dismissed for 64 with Cameron Mukthar taking 3-2 and Paul Betteridge 3-4.

Port are away to mid-table Heaton Mersey Village this Saturday.

In Division Three, Groves 2nds beat visiting Eastham by eight wickets. Eastham scored 134-8 before Groves made 135-2 (N Evans 65no).

Ellesmere Port 2nds won by nine wickets at Rostherne, while Capenhurst were beaten by 68 runs by Didsbury 5ths.

This Saturday, Groves 2nds travel to Glazebury 2nds, Port 2nds are away to Wistaston Village 2nds and Capenhurst are at Appleton 2nds.

In the Cheshire County League, Neston’s title bid is not completely lost.

They are in fourth place, on 303 points, after they almost managed a notable victory over Alderley Edge in a tight finish at Parkgate.

After being set to better Alderley’s 180-5 (Richard Wilkinson 49, Jason Whittaker 45), Neston closed six runs short on 174-8, Sam McPherson scoring a fine 66 and Andy Roberts 44.

Neston host basement side Bramhall this Saturday.
