ELLESMERE Port are up and running in Cheshire Alliance Division Two.

After back-to-back defeats, the Dunkirk Lane boys notched their first victory of the season with a three-wicket home win over Mossley on Saturday.

The Congleton visitors put on a testing 183 despite the efforts of Fahad Khan (3-26) and Mukhtar (3-48), and it seemed Port would struggle to surpass that total after both of their openers fell cheaply.

But after captain Gareth Boys (50) and Paul Betteridge (42) gave the hosts a fighting chance, man-of-the-match Mukhtar (41no) saw them over the line to 185-7.

Port travel to high-flying Saughall on Saturday.

Ellesmere Port 2nds’ unbeaten start to the Division Three campaign came to an end on Saturday as they went down by seven wickets at Didsbury 5ths.

Only Paul Ashley (26) and Ryan Peers (17) reached double figures as Port limped to 114-8 before the table-toppers raced to 116-3 in reply.

Neston took over at the top of the Cheshire County League Premier Division on Saturday after they held their nerve to win by two wickets at Urmston.

Jack Smith fired 96 as the Station Road side made it to 229-8 having been set 227-9dec (James Hawley 4-54).

Neston host defending champions Oulton Park on Saturday.
