MARK and Julia Fidler’s hill training with Ellesmere Port Running Club paid off as they finished high in the Saab Salomon Forest Trail 10k in Delamere Forest.

They were the club’s sole representatives in this tough cross-country race but Mark came home 83rd out of 398 with a time of 48min 38seconds while Julia was not far behind with a time of 59:33 for 303rd.

Six EPRC runners took part in the second Off Road Grand Prix of the season at Deeside.

The five-mile mixed terrain course saw Ian Cooper come home first with an impressive 27:45 for fifth place overall.

Next home was Graham Earlam in 29:39 (15th) and Denis Duret in 29:46 (16th).

Nicky Bird was next in 31:13 (24th), Jon Cole in 31:38 (25th) and Matt Whitfield in 34.00 claimed 41st.

Anyone wishing to join EPRC, whether beginner or competent runner, should call in at Whitby Sports and Social Club on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6.45pm (to start running at 7pm).
