SNOOKER: CHAMPIONS Conservative A must have been confident of another victory in The Liberal Club Division when City Transport were the visitors.

With a 100% record this season, Cons looked as if they were going to maintain that record when Neal Jones and Lea Dagher beat Colin Morris and Gordon Dugdale to give them a 2-0 lead.

Transport had other ideas, however, when captain Vinnie Futcher, who is playing brilliantly this season, and his son Shane took to the tables. Vinnie convincingly defeated Andy Short 69-19 and son Shane beat Andy Duckers 80-9 to level the scores.

Dave Tilston then gave Transport the lead with a closely-contested win against Dave Smith and then Kevin Scott sealed a memorable win, with his victory over Eddie Jenkins including a 43 break.

St Saviours B travelled to Utd Services B with a weakened team and dropped valuable points that would have taken them top of the table. They took a 3-0 lead with wins from Wayne Amey (47 break) Robbie Hayes (36) and Peter Sheppard with a fluked black-ball win.

Craig Thelwell pulled one back for Services when he defeated Mike Davies. It looked set for a 3-3 draw with Saints reserves John Elliott and John Murray to play. Jason Taylor easily accounted for Elliott but Murray had other ideas and, after needing a snooker and all the colours, he failed when he missed the black and Andy Rose took his opportunity to level.

Newly-promoted Christleton B kept their season rolling when they defeated Utd Services A 4-2 to join Cons and Saviours at the top, all on the same points.

Mark Cook, a much-improved young player this season, put Christleton ahead with a convincing win against Alan Platt. Gerry Byewater, one of the leagues veterans, gave Chris Bennion a snooker lesson, winning 93-13. Kevin Lyth then gave Services the lead but that was the end of their scoring with Phil Challenor, Llew Williams and Alan Lea giving Christleton their win.

Broughton Wings A comfortably defeated promoted Upton RBL A 5-1 with Paul Coppock making a 42 break and Simon Moulton a 37. Utd Services C gained their first win of the season at the expense of struggling Electric S&SC. Graham Gilbert was the only winner for Electric as Services C went on to win 5-1.

In The Chester City Transport Division, St Werburghs crashed at Snooker Centre 6-0. Leaders CCO defeated Waverton 4-2 to keep on course for a return to the top flight. Mark Lloyd, Colin Hargreaves, Martin Dodd and Harold Hewson scored for the home side.

Although Garth Andreson made it four wins out of four, he could not stop Saviours A going down at home to Conservative 4-2. Captain Derek Osborne was the only other winner with Liam Williams, Gary Jaros, John Wells and Brian Morgan scoring for a very strong Cons team.

In the Supreme Cleaners Division, the accolade of the week must go to Waverton B. They had their first win for 18 months at the expense of Liberal B. Tom Jones, John Stonely, Gareth Jones and George Lofthouse were their heroes as the ran out 4-2 winners. Upton RBL D went to the top of this division when they took their derby match with Upton C 4-2. After going two frames down, Jerry Banks, John Gerrard and John O'Boyle won with the C team being a player short. St Werburghs B came adrift when they went down 5-1 to Upton B, who had not previously won this season.

In the CD Mcallister Cup, Broughton Wings B travelled to St Saviours and ran out comfortable winners. After 15-year-old Gareth Wynne had added another 70 points to Wings' 105 start, Saviours were chasing a lost cause, even though they won four and drew one of the last five games.

St Saviours A entertained top-flight Christleton B and gave them a fright. Roy Proctor, Steve Barry and Garth Andreson all won but wins by Mark Cook, Chris Dixon and Phil Challenor got Christleton through by six points. Another team to do well was City Transport B. Two divisions below their opponents Utd Services C, because they were a man short, instead of receiving 130 start they had to give Services 147 points. Although Transport won three of the five games, they valiantly went out by 20 points.
