HELSBY Running Club held a presentation evening to say a big 'thank you' to the sponsors and community groups who helped make the Shell Four Villages Half-Marathon such a success.

The evening at Helsby Community Sports Club saw the club hand out £3,650 raised through this year's race.

The principal beneficiaries were Halton Haven and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, with cash also being presented to Ashton Scouts, Beacon Explorer Scouts, Dewa Explorer Scouts, Frodsham Sea Scouts, Helsby Scouts, the North West Scout Fellowship, the North West Cheshire District Scout Council, Elton Guides, Helsby Scouts, Hornsmill School, Helsby High School, Helsby Tennis Club, Frodsham and District Rotary Club and Helsby Women's Institute.

Community groups helped the club host the event by loaning equipment, marshalling, supplying water stations, managing car parks and other tasks.

The club also thanked the race sponsors, especially Shell and trainer manufacturer Asics.

To end the evening, Helsby RC chairman Andy Smith gave an engraved tankard to former race director Alec Robertson in appreciation of all his hard work in the role between 1993 and 2006.
