A busy month for City of Chester Swimming Club saw members competing in Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales.

Nine swimmers took part in the North West Regional Summer Championships held over three weekends at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre and Manchester Aquatics.

The Chester squad comprised Ivan Georgiev, 22, Cheryl Wilson, 21, Emily Noden, 19, Laura Davies, 18, Jack Edwards, 17, Will Brown, 16, Eliza Nash, 15, 14-year-olds Georgia Williams, Holly Parkinson and Phoebe Joseph, and Millie Riddick, 13.

The first weekend in Liverpool involved distance events and relays, with Eliza, Georgia, Holly and Phoebe taking part in the 4x100m medley relay. Holly also competed in the 400m freestyle event and Georgia in the 400m individual medley.

All nine Chester members were in action in Manchester. Ivan reached two open finals, in the 50m breaststroke and 200m butterfly, improving his time and place in the butterfly.

Cheryl made two open finals in the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke, improving both her times and place in the backstroke. In the 16-year-old age group, Will reached the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke finals, again improving both times and place in the freestyle, while Eliza made the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke finals, where she improved times and won a silver medal in the 50m butterfly.

Swimming in the 15-year-old age group, Georgia made the 50m and 200m butterfly finals, improving both times, and Holly made the final in the 100m backstroke, improving her time and place.

Eliza’s time in the 50m butterfly secured her a place at the British Summer National Championships, along with her 100m butterfly place secured earlier in the season.

Cheryl’s time in the 50m backstroke and Georgia’s time in the 200m butterfly sealed their places in the ASA English National Championships.

The second weekend in Manchester saw Holly make the final of the 200m backstroke, Cheryl make the 50m backstroke final and Millie reach the final for the 14-year-old age group.

Over in Wrexham at the Cath Ankers Meet, 13 Chester swimmers came away with a large medal haul. They bagged four gold, 80 silver and two bronze medals, plus four ‘speeding tickets’.
