CHESTER Tri members participated in two very different events at the weekend.
One group of runners went to Tywyn in Mid Wales for the 14-mile Race the Train event following the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and back.
The train was full of supporters spurring the competitors on.
Competitors race along a mixture of public roads, lanes, unsurfaced roads, tracks, and farm land.
The train completed the return journey in 1hr 47mins 57secs and two Chester triathletes beat it back to the station.
Vince van Woerkom finished in 9th place overall in 1.28:04, with Kenny Begley 10 minutes behind in 1.38:41. Jan Rogers was just behind the train in 1.55:48, but was second in her age category, with Chris Hulse finishing some 20 minutes later in 2.18:49.
At the National Club Relay Championships in Nottingham, five Chester Tri teams competed in a fun event with Ironman finishers in teams with triathletes in their first season.
The morning’s racing, for women’s and mixed teams, saw four teams finish well within the 4.45:00 cut-off, while in the afternoon Ben Birks, Mark Bennett, Peter Brook, and Leigh Holland were the fastest Chester Tri team of the day, finishing in 3.19:31, despite torrential rain.
At the Nottingham Triathlon, held at the same venue on the following day, Becky Holland finished sixth in her age category, in 1.16:03.
