Head coach David Kirby expressed his delighted after Chester Gladiators moved back to the top of North West Men's League Division Four with a 68-10 hammering of Bury Broncos A.

Loose forward Ben Stelmaszek was in inspired form for Chester, touching down for a hat-trick of tries and proving too strong for the beleaguered Broncos defence.

Stelmaszek created the opening score of the game for Daniel Munt with a one-on-one ball steal and crossed twice as Gladiators ran riot in the first-half to lead 44-10.

Bury tightened up in the second period and showed a commendable spirit under non-stop pressure but Chester added a further 24 points to seal a dominant win, which put them back on top of the table on points difference.

Cameron Hogg, Mark Kingsley, Chris Jones, Jonny Rae, Joe Hickey and Aled Davies got the other tries with Davies landing eight from 10 conversions.

Kirby said: "Saturday's game was the first time we have had a full squad available for selection and it was by far the best performance to date.

"Everything we have been working on in training came together and the performance was amazing. The lads showed great structure and team spirit."

Gladiators go to Widnes St Maries Vikings A on Saturday (2.30pm).
