BOXING: TRAINEE chef Richard Lovell hopes to find the recipe for success in his attempt to clinch gold for England at the Four Nations Amateur competition in Ireland next week.

The Blacon 16-year-old who reached the finals of the national schoolboys' championships is, according to Heavy Hitters Gym coach Pete Buckley, looking 'sharp and ready' at the light-middleweight limit of 72kilos.

With a record that boasts 10 wins from 18 fights, experience is not the only thing he is hoping to gain in Ireland, with the chance of a medal on offer.

Said Buckley: 'Richard's style is based around counter-punching and picking his shots. He'll be a real handful for any opponent.

Lovell, who is sponsored by Heritage Security, isn't making any predictions as he faces the biggest contest of his career.

He said: 'I'm going away to do as well as possible and if I get gold then great.'
