LADY Luck was smiling on Barrie Carlson at the weekend when fishing in Sunday's Lobol AC match at their priory pool, writes Brian Roberts.
Top rod Carlson won the day thanks to an 8-14-0 common carp which, with skimmers, completed his winning haul of 11-12-8.
Second-placed Danny Boothroyd reeled in a specimen 2-8-0 ide in his catch of 7-7-0, edging Peter Cooke into third place with crucians and roach to weigh 2-14-0.
Steve Openshaw netted a double in the week's open matches on the Lingmere Fishery. He won the Thursday match with a carp-based 44-0-0, well clear of Dave Randles senior with likewise for 23-14-0 and Richard Nelson on 16-14-0.
Openshaw's Saturday success arrived thanks to a 27-8-0 haul made up of carp and chub, pipping Gary Bough with 26-15-0 and Richard Nelson with carp for 18-9-0 in third.
The Willaston AC team endured a dour day when fishing in last Sunday's Jack Purchase Winter League match on the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Mughull.
On a day when there were many dry keepnets, Willaston managed to secure seventh place despite three blanks on their team sheet. The result puts the team seventh overall in the series.
Their top rods of the day were Phil Cross, who won his section with just 5-0 of tiny perch, Keith Wilson took second in his section with 2-2-0 of tiny perch and Mike Davies having 0-0-4.
