ARCHERY: BROTHERS Matthew and David Roberts proved to be double trouble for the competition at an archery tournament in Staffordshire.

The pair, of Glaisdale Close, Wistaston, are members of the Greenbank Company of Archers at Stapeley. They shot down all-comers to wrestle top-two finishes at the open competition at Cheadle.

Matt, 13, won the U16 Compound class with an exceptional points tally of 854, landing 34 of his 144 arrows in the centre gold section. The performance also earned him a Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) rose for getting more than 800 points. Brother David earned second place in the 16-18 Recurve Class with a deadly display of shooting.

Dad Neil said the Shavington High School pupils have shot to success since taking up the sport three years ago.

'They won their sections at the Cheshire Indoor Championships in February and are both going well. It was Matthew's first rose so we were all particularly pleased with that.

'The lads took up archery three years ago and my wife Sandra and I were spare parts, so we took it up too. I was an also-ran at Cheadle but Sandra got a GNAS Rose for getting 800-plus points. It is a satisfying sport when things are going well but frustrating when they aren't.'
