ROWING: Brothers George and Will Laughton are relaxing after taking on the world.

George rowed in the British eight at the recent World Under 23 Championships and Will in a coxless quad at the juniors competition at Brandenburg, Germany.

George, 20, was in an eight boat knocked out at the semi-final stage in Amsterdam. But 18-year-old Will got much closer to a medal.

He said: 'We were fifth and I think we could have done better, the bronze probably. We had a problem in the semi-final, when the rudder slipped on the wire and we banged into the buoys. We only just qualified for the final, but got a poor lane and a strong crosswind.'

Will rowed for Britain earlier this year at the Munich International Regatta and picked up a silver in the double sculls. German boats were first and third and they formed a quad which went on to dominate the World Championships.

The brothers, who live at Lower Withington, near Holmes Chapel, are members of North-wich Rowing Club.
