ANGLING: NORTHWICH AA's third Mini League match on the River Weaver was again dominated by town centre pegs and leading the way with 21-14-0 off peg four was Kevin Brooks, writes John Stubbs.

His haul of bream and skimmers helped keep his Edgeley Sports team top of the league. Anthony King was second with 17-3-0 from his next-door peg and Graham Evans was third with 12-7-0, all of which leaves a 1-2-3 of Edgeley, Cheadle All Stars and Lymm AC.

Steve Watson, a local lad who moved to America and became a US angling international, was back home for a visit this week and fished the Dave's of Middlewich sweepstake.

Inevitably, he won. His 4-0-8 bested Mike Boughey's 2-14-0 and Steve Lakin's 2-12-0.

Winsford Winter League on Sunday started in 4°C of frost and one section had to be decided by a draw because no-one had a bite. Bernie Swift (Grange) was the lucky winner.

Warmest competitor was overall winner Ian Shaw (Barlows), who was on 190 and put 10-8-0 on the scales, beating the occupants of 199 and 198 Bob Meegs (Dave's) and Brent Pierpoint (Rudheath SC) who had 6-14-0 and 6-8-0. Section winners were Alan Nixon (Small Fry), Ian Shaw (Barlows) and Bob Meggs (Dave's).

Small Fry won the match and positions overall are:

Grange 49, Small Fry 46, Rudheath SC 43.

Ernie Ayers won the Wednesday Open with 14-6-0 and the Winsford Veterans match the previous day with a 14-13-0 net off 196.
