FORMER WBU middleweight champion Anthony Farnell and ex-world amateur champ Frankie Gavin were both watching as Vauxhall Motors ABC held another successful show.

The duo were guests of the club for the night and they were treated to a night of top quality boxing at Vauxhall Motors Sports and Social Club as the hosts ended the night boasting no fewer than five winners.

The top bout of the evening was between Vauxhall’s Eddy Thomson and Bridgefoot ABC’s Rhys Yates where Thomson rallied and turned around a slow first two rounds into a unanimous points win.

The bout between Mason Cartwright (Vauxhall) and Callum Cooke (Northside) panned out in similar fashion with Cartwright pleasing the home fans by grabbing the points win.

Cooke could count himself lucky not to be disqualified after two public warnings from referee Billy Topping.

Vauxhall schoolboy Connor Leatt maintained his good form but was made to work for it, eventually overcoming a spirited challenge from Burslem’s schoolboy international Ashley Maughton.

Vauxhall’s James Delaney and Dane Barraclough (Northside) put on a textbook display of junior boxing with Delaney’s greater variety of shots seeing him grab the victory in a hard fought bout.

Skelmersdale’s Billy Swindell’s speed was too much for Vauxhall junior Mason Morgan who narrowly lost out to a close points defeat.

Vauxhall senior Dave Shiels looked sharp as he disposed of Matty Claffey (Mottram & Hattersley) with relative ease, while Kieran Hamza (Vauxhall) received a points victory by the narrowest of margins in his fiercely fought battle with Bridgewater’s Corey Barnes.

Vauxhall fighters Kyle Timson, Anthony Moore, Jake Batchelor, Adam Wynne and Will Fewtrill battled well but lost out in their bouts.

Also in attendance was trainer Mick Jelly, the man who discovered and helped develop boxing superstar Amir Khan and brother Haroon, who brought his four Bury charges to Ellesmere Port and left with four winners.
