Paul Butler will have the backing of a legion of fans when he bids to become IBF bantamweight world champion in Newcastle next month.

Great Sutton boxer Butler, who has won all 15 of his professional bouts, has stepped up in weight to challenge champion Stuart Hall.

He will have to dethrone the Darlington fighter in his own back yard, with the contest for June 7 being at the Metro Radio Arena.

Butler, his father Paul Butler Snr and the rest of his team  have come up with a plan to negate home advantage, putting on free travel for his supporters.

Coaches will depart the Sir Robert pub on Overpool Road and head up to Newcastle for fight night.

Butler Snr said: “It’s going to be a fantastic night and Paul always has brilliant support.

“We are already up to three buses and travel is free of charge for anyone who buys a ticket through us so there has been lots of interest.

“I’ve had people on the phone who I haven’t seen in 20 years and people who I went to school with. They are all coming out of the woodwork and want to come and support Paul.”

Former Vauxhall ABC amateur Butler Jnr was ringside to watch Hall make the first defence of his IBF crown against Martin Ward.

He moved up to bantamweight for the first time in March, stopping Oreste Bernabe Nieva inside four rounds before declaring himself ready to challenge Hall.

Butler Snr said: “It’s going to be a nervous night and a tough ask because the kid Hall is bigger but that’s all he’s got.

“I don’t think he can match Paul in any other department and it’s nothing new.

“Paul has always been up against people bigger than him since the age of 10 because he’s always been very small but he has always come through.”

Tickets for the fight are on sale now from Paul Butler Snr on 07934 562132 and include free transport to and from Newcastle.
