NEWLY crowned British super-flyweight champion Paul Butler was a special guest at Wirral Community Police ABC’s latest show.

Butler, 24, of Great Sutton, was a member of the club when it was known as Vauxhall Motors ABC.

He joined Matty Fagan – another Vauxhall amateur-turned-pro – at the Vauxhall Sports and Social Club event, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Schoolboys Jack Tidd went down to Isaac Flemington (Salisbury), Sonny Connolly was beaten by Declan Powell (Bridgefoot), and junior Jack McEvoy fell to Dean Jones (Pontypool).

But Jack Kelly came to the rescue with a hard-earned points win over Bootle’s Aaron McCallum, a victory which also earned him the show’s best boxer award.

The final junior bout saw Marlon Walters beaten on points by Carl Mather (Llay).

Club morale was lifted by the four seniors’ performances.

Flyweight Alex Foulkes ground out a tough points win over the accomplished Levi Lawrence (St Joseph’s), Carl McCleod showed greater maturity to prevail over Liam Edwards (Pontypool), and the tall Aaron Brabinder made full use of his physical advantages against Anthony Ray (Winsford).

Chris Howell then beat Lewis Preece (Pontypool) on points in a super-heavyweight epic.
