ONE of boxing’s all-time legends visited a club in Little Sutton to back its ‘Gloves Not Gangs’ campaign.

Five-time heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield happily posed for photos and chatted with young members of Wirral Community Police ABC (formerly Vauxhall Motors ABC).

His visit was part of a tour of the UK which saw him urge youngsters to turn their backs on gang culture and take up boxing instead.

Holyfield, who signed the Wirral club’s Gloves Not Gangs poster during his visit, was raised in a ghetto neighbourhood in Atlanta, Georgia, so the subject is close to his heart.

Pete Phelan, chairman of Wirral Community Police ABC, said: “There was a great buzz in the gym when he walked through the door. It’s not every day that a champion of his calibre visits our club.”
