Andy Jones feels he is becoming more comfortable in the professional ranks with every round.

Heavyweight hopeful Jones took his record to 2-0 with a convincing points win over Lithuanian journeyman Remigijus Ziausys.

Jones, of Mynydd Isa, won all four rounds in Manchester on Saturday night, making good use of his superior size and speed.

Jones said: “I was a lot happier with the performance. We changed a few things in the build up and that seemed to work a lot better.

“There were lots of positives and I felt a lot more comfortable in the ring.”

Ziausys had only been stopped twice in more than 80 fights but found the going tough with 30-year-old Jones.

“It was what I needed and it’s good to get some more rounds in,” said Jones.

“We knew he had only been stopped a couple of times and we were mindful of that.

“I hurt him a couple of times and I think I might have been able to stop him but it’s all about learning at the moment.”

Jones had a successful career in the amateurs - primarily with Deva ABC in Saltney - but became disillusioned with boxing and took a break from the sport.

He eventually returned to Shotton ABC before deciding to turn pro in 2013 under trainer Shane Thomas and corner man Clive Doran – father of Connah’s Quay fighter Tom.

Jones beat tough Ugandan Moses Matovu in his debut in December and the 6ft 4ins southpaw has impressed promoter Dave Coldwell.

Jones said: “Dave, Shane and Clive were all happier with the performance but there still a few things to work on.”

Jones’ training partner Tom Doran announced his comeback in January and has signed with Coldwell with the promoter considering putting on a show at Deeside Leisure Centre with both men in action.

Jones said: “I’m not quite sure what the plan is but there are rumours it could happen at the end of May and it would be great if it did.

“I want to keep busy and I don’t mind who I fight because I trust Dave and Shane to get the right fights for me.

“I’ve had a couple of days out of the gym but I went back on Monday and I’ll be ready.”
