TWO boxers aiming to bring championship titles to Chester could not be in better shape for the most important fights of their lives.

Chester Boxers duo Chris Goodwin and Paul Economides have trained around the clock for their top-of-the-bill bouts on a big night of professional boxing at the Northgate Arena on Saturday.

Goodwin, 22, from Great Barrow, will attempt to rip the International Masters lightweight belt away from Kenyan Geoffrey Munika, while Economides, 24, of Connah’s Quay, will bid to beat Shaun Doherty for the third time in his career. If he does, he will claim the Yorkshireman’s British Masters super-bantamweight crown.

Coach Steve Goodwin, who trains son Chris and Economides at the Chester Boxers gym in Hoole, said: “The lads are ready. They’ve trained seven days a week for at least five hours a day for the last 12 weeks. They could not have had better preparation and now it’s up to them to go out there and win.

“But it will not be easy. We’ve not conned the public with these fights, they will be very difficult.”

Goodwin Jnr followed his father into boxing when he was six. The stylist is undefeated in his last 13 fights but his clash with seasoned pro Munika will be his first over 10 three-minute rounds.

Steve, who is full of praise for organisers Fight Options, said: “It’s been a long road for Chris but now he’s stepped up to 10 rounds and it’s an experience he’s looking forward to.”

Tickets for Saturday’s show cost £30 or £50 (ringside) and can be purchased by telephoning Ticketmaster on 0844 844 0444. Doors open at 6pm.

The weigh-in for the Goodwin and Economides fights, open to the public, takes place at the Forum Shopping Centre, Northgate Street, tomorrow (Friday) at 1pm.
