CHRIS Goodwin’s first fight outside of the UK could see him land the maiden world title of his burgeoning career.

The 23-year-old from Great Barrow will battle it out with Hungarian Istvan Kiss for the World Boxing Foundation lightweight strap in the Republic of Ireland tomorrow night.

The County Mayo clash at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar will be Goodwin’s first major test since he suffered a hugely controversial points defeat to Carl Johanneson at the Northgate Arena in March.

Goodwin was granted a re-match with Johannseson on June 3.

However he had to pull out on the eve of the bout after he suffered a water infection which sapped him off all his strength.

Goodwin, who trains at Chester Boxers in Hoole, proved he is back to full fitness with a points win over Andrejs Podusovs little over three weeks later.

The victory was the 15th of his 18 professional contests.

His opponent tomorrow, Kiss, 19, has won 10 of his 13 fights and is the reigning Hungarian and Universal Boxing Organisation Youth lightweight champion.
