VAUXHALL Motors ABC broke new ground at Destiny and Elite Nightclub in Ellesmere Port as their boxers danced around the ring rather than the dance floor in a exciting bill containing 14 fights.

With a small but vocal crowd behind the rising stars, top of the bill was Paul Butler, fighting for the final time as an amateur, against Consett ABC’s Luke O’Rourke.

Butler took the first round, using body attacks to gain the advantage, but O’Rourke hadn’t come to make up the numbers and pulled back in the second.

The deciding third round continued at a breathtaking pace, and at the conclusion of the bout, it was Butler who ended as a deserved points winner against the man he beat on the road to becoming this year’s 51kg ABA champion.

In another of the night’s bouts, Will Fewtree suffered a points defeat in dramatic fashion, flooring Tuebrook ABC’s Knowledge Jurbane from Tuebrook in the final round, before being halted in his pursuit by the bell.

In what was a complete turnaround from the previous rounds, Fewtree lost out after Jurbane’s early work of power punching justified a two rounds-to one victory.

In another well-contested bout, Carl McLeod and Middleton Select ABC’s Dominic Carr fought again after meeting in Nantwich last year.

McLeod stood victorious once more, this time crafting out the win by displaying the power and steel needed for the step up to the next level.

Tommy Shiels, Myles Tunstall, Andy Telford and Mason Cartwright all recorded victories.

Cartwright maintained control in his comfortable success over Moss Side ABC’s Ben Wood; Shiels, in his usual slugfest style, stormed to victory over Dan Trainor of Jimmy Egans Boxing, while Tunstall continued his improvement in his defeat of Dyffryn ABC’s Gary Rowland.

Andy Telford also triumphed against a Dyffryn ABC fighter, Lee Quinn, but only after a real battle.

Eddy Thomson lost to Middleton’s Matthew Ryan.

There were wins for Ethan Bibby, Connor Leatt and James Delaney but there were defeats for fellow juniors Mason Morgan, Jerry Wall and Connor Steen.
