SAILING: There were different winners across the board at Gresford Sailing Club on Sunday.

In the first race, which was a handicap, four boats jostled for top position.

Nick and Eleanor Blore, in their Enterprise, worked hard to take first, half-a-minute quicker than Ian Ware in his Solo, while the GP of Kevin Forbes with Trevor Ward as crew were third, and Shan and Annie Stapley fourth.

The second race was all about class, with the in-form Blore duo taking the Enterprise class from Frank Page.

Ward won the GP class, Ware was the top sailor in the Solo class, while the Stapley twosome claimed the Mirror class.

For the third and final race of the day, the handicap system was once again applied, and once again it was a close-fought contest.

But it all changed at the number two marker buoy on the second lap when leader Nick Blore failed to give the other boats enough room to round the buoy, meaning he was penalised.

That let in Jim Young, in the Enterprise and with Page as crew, to triumph once the handicap was applied.
