JEFF Hadley flew the flag for Ellesmere Port Running Club in the Great North Run on Sunday.

Jeff completed the 13.1-mile course in two hours, nine minutes and 38 seconds.

In the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon, EPRC's Amanda Penfold notched up a scintillating time of 1:53.05 despite the arduous course and unseasonably high temperature on race day. She will now work on honing her race speed in the Borders League after her recent strength-training programme.

The Sandstone Trail Race saw strong performances from EPRC members in both the long and short races.

A multi-terrain event, the trail leads from Duckington to Delamere and features a 17-mile long race and a 10-mile short race.

Matt Whitfield produced a highly polished performance to win the long race for the club, clocking 2:19. The ever-improving Keith Musson and Alan Durston quickly followed him in. The race was good practice for Alan, who tackles the Amsterdam Marathon later this month.

In the short race, Nicki Bird flew along to register a hugely impressive time of 1:18 to finish fourth overall and secure the first lady prize.

Next in was Mike Burns who was happy with his time of 1:24. Alison Macdonald gave a lesson in even-paced running to cross the line in 1:28. Completing the EPRC quartet was Roy Traynor.

The four-race Summer Multi-Terrain League concluded with a race at Arrowe Park. EPRC's ladies' team secured 10th place with Nicki Bird ninth, Alison Hughes 18th and Topsy Lee 20th in the under 30 category.

Alison Macdonald finished an excellent second in the over-40s and Madelaine Bird fifth in the over-50s. The EPRC men's A-team finished a creditable seventh with the B-team in 25th. Ian Cooper earned fifth place overall and second in the over-40 category with Mike Burns 30th.

In the U30 category, Steve Laker finished 14th, Chris Marshall 15th and Nigel Cririe 36th. Matt Whit-field's current fine form earned him fourth spot in the over-50 category with Keith Musson 13th, Alan Durston 16th and Chris Bennion 31st.
