JENNY Tinmouth has raced to her best finish of the season so far.

The 28-year-old from Whitby, who competes in almost exclusively all-male fields, finished 11th in a British 125cc GP Championship race at Mallory Park on Sunday.

The performance made up for a disappointing run in the day's first race, when she failed to finish due to a puncture.

Tinmouth said: 'I got a 13th place at Oulton Park earlier this season so last weekend was my best so far. It's a bit better because I was riding a different bike - for a team called KRP. The rider they normally run was racing in the GP 250cc event so I got the ride at Mallory Park.'

Tinmouth's encouraging dis-play in Leicestershire has left her 25th out of more than 40 in the overall championship.

She has the chance to climb the rankings in her next appearance at Snetterton later this month.

'I'm looking for a top-five finish at a race this season,' she added. 'I'm back on my own bike for the next one and I've got some new engine parts so I'm looking forward to it.'

Tinmouth, works at the Two Wheel Workshop on Westminster Industrial Park, made her racing debut at Anglesey in 1999.

The British 125cc GP Championship in which she competes accompanies the British Super-bikes series. nMore than 150 cars from the Vintage Sports Car Club will be racing at Oulton Park on Saturday, as part of the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy event.

Vintage cars (from the pre-World War Two era) and historic racing cars (from the post-war period up until 1966) will compete in an event which allows people to not only look at classic machines up close, but to see them being raced hard on one of the country's top race circuits.

Tickets for the meeting will be available on the gate and cost £20, with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Parking and paddock access are also free, providing the chance to get close to the machines and meet the drivers.
