MOTOR SPORT: CRAIG Beggs is bidding for five-star finishes as he aims to gatecrash the top 10 of the Virgin Mobile Yamaha R6 Cup.

Craig, 22, from Wistaston, is lying 14th out 26 racers in the championship, after amassing 24 points so far.

He turned in his best performance of the season at Snetterton, when he blitzed past riders from 13th on the grid to finish eighth.

But the last round at Donington Park was not so productive. He was disappointed to qualify in 16th, and things went from bad to worse when two riders went down in front of him early on.

He swerved and avoided a collision, but lost time and had to settle for 13th.

Now Craig, a technical support engineer for Bentley Motors, is looking to get his season back on track at Silverstone on August 21.

He said: 'I am quite happy with the way things have gone but I really want to push on now. I need to get some top-five finishes to get me up into the top-10 overall and that is my target. There are five races left and can do it.

'I was a bit unlucky at Donington so I have to put that behind me and get on with it. The competition is tough but I will be ready for the action at Silverstone.'

Craig He would like to thank Maclellan Int, Envirostrip UK and Hein Gericke for their support this season. Anyone interested in supporting Craig can ring 07725 096842.
