HOOP stars from Whitby Heath Primary School are heading to Birmingham to represent Cheshire Jets in a national final.

The school defeated competition from five others to win the right to appear at the 2010 Hoops4Health Final, which takes place on the same day as the British Basketball League playoff final at the NIA in Birmingham on Sunday, May 8.

Six schools took part in the Final of Finals at Chester’s Northgate Arena, representing the areas where the Jets had delivered their successful Hoops4Health community programme during the 2009/10 season.

Whitby Health and St Luke’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Frodsham were the top two teams that made it through to the final, which was held at half-time during the Jets’ recent game against Essex Pirates.

Jets head coach Paul Smith said: “It’s fantastic that Whitby Heath made it through to represent us at the NIA.

“The playoff finals in Birmingham is a great event that showcases the best in British basketball. We wish Whitby the best of luck on the day.”
