JO Leedham is a step closer to securing her place at the 2012 London Olympics.

The 24-year old has been named in a preliminary squad of 20 players who stand a chance of being invited into the Olympic training camp for the GB senior women’s basketball team.

Small forward Leedham, a former Ellesmere Port Panthers player who hails from Little Sutton, currently plays for Australian side Bulleen Boomers.

The Boomers are coached by Tom Maher, who also coaches the GB women’s basketball team.

Maher said: “We have a good preparation period this year, with plenty of time for the girls to get settled in and gel as a team.

“I am confident with the players we are bringing into camp this year as we prepare for our biggest challenge to date.”

Within the list of 20 players identified by British Basketball, 18 will be invited to attend the training camp at Surrey Sports Park .

The group of 18 will assemble on May 5 to begin their preparations for the summer.

By the end of the training camp period, the squad will have been reduced to 16 players. The final 12 are selected for the final team on June 22.
