CHESHIRE Basketball Club fans have chosen a new name for their club – Cheshire Phoenix.
Should the steering group behind running the BBL club be granted the franchise, the name will replace ‘Cheshire Jets’, which has been trademarked and sold by former owner Haydn Cook.
For now they remain simply Cheshire. But the team rekindled an old rivalry at the Northgate Arena on Sunday as Manchester Giants, back in the BBL 11 years after folding, came to visit.
Having led for most of the game Cheshire secured an 83-81 win in dramatic style.
Trailing by one with 25 seconds to go, Chez Marks missed a shot, chased his own rebound, spun and put up a reaction shot, off-balance, from three-point range, that somehow dropped in to give Cheshire a two-point victory.
