CHESHIRE Jets will go into the start of the BBL Championship Play-Offs this weekend brimming with confidence after they ended their regular season with stunning back-to-back wins.

John Lavery’s in-form side won 96-81 at league champions Newcastle Eagles on Friday before securing sixth place in the final standings with a 98-77 success over Sheffield Sharks at a sold-out Northgate Arena on Sunday.

The capacity crowd – which included QPR Premier League footballer Djibril Cissé – were on their feet as the hosts produced a tremendous second-half display to blow away the Sharks, who also had the chance of finishing sixth.

A fourth straight victory for the Jets means they will now face third-placed Worcester Wolves in the quarter-finals of the play-offs.

The first leg takes place at the Wolves’ University of Worcester home on Saturday (7.30pm) with the second leg following on Sunday at the Northgate in Chester (5.30pm).

The team with the aggregate win will progress to the semi-finals.

Jets head coach Lavery said: “No-one’s going to want to come and play us here.

“We haven’t really played Worcester well over the three games, but having said that Worcester have played really well against us.

“A couple of those games we were missing players through injury so we’ve just got to keep our momentum going.

“When we go down there on Saturday the end of that game is just half-time. If we can come away with a lead or keep it close, they are not going to want to come here and play.”

The Jets – with four of their starting five sporting Mohawk hairstyles to mark their play-off qualification – ran out comfortable winners against the Sharks after taking a 48-46 lead into the half-time break.

Kai Williams (25) did most of the points damage, Colin O’Reilly made a triple-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Matt Schneck (17 points, 14 rebounds) and Bill Cole (20 points, 11 rebounds) enjoyed double-doubles.

Williams led all scorers with 29 points in Friday’s triumph over a youthful Eagles team.

O’Reilly (19 points, 10 rebounds) and Schneck (15 points, 16 rebounds) also impressed.
