PUPILS from Chester, Helsby and Ellesmere Port showcased their cross country skills on Saturday.

A record entry of 132 runners took part in round one of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port.

Kate Mansfield, from Newton Primary, claimed top spot in the Year 3 girls race in a time of three minutes and 59 seconds, ahead of runner-up Ciara Bolt-Wilson (Eaton Primary) in 4.04 and Gabriella Tugulea (Newton), who was third in 4.04.

Heather Mylchreest, of Acresfield Primary, won the Year 4 girls race in 3.37, with Tyla Bainbridge (Meadow Primary, Ellesmere Port) runner-up in 3.41 and Lucy Dodd (Newton) third in 3.43.

Paul Morrison, representing Our Lady’s in Ellesmere Port, took the Year 3 boys title in 3.37 and was followed home by Ben Young (Eaton) in 3.43 and bronze medallist Morgan Gray (Eaton) in 3.46.

Farndon Primary pair Louis Realff and Jack Wright finished joint first in the Year 4 boys race with an identical time of 3.14, with Jac Goodall (Mickle Trafford Primary) third in 3.19.

Farndon’s Jessica Thom -as produced an impressive win in the Year 5 girls race, posting 5.39, ahead of Charlotte King (Helsby Hillside Primary) in 6.22 and third-placed Emily Titlow (Greater Grace, Backford) in 6.24.

Tarvin Primary’s Josh Hindle recorded a time of 5.45 to win the Year 5 boys race from runner-up Matthew Garner (Acresfield) in 5.47 and third-placed Joseph Morrison (Our Lady’s) in 5.48.

Georgia Massey, representing Horns Mill Primary, won the Year 6 girls race in 5.29, while Mark Lathom, from Eaton, triumphed in the Year 6 boys in 5.16.

Tess Corr (Christleton High) clinched a sprint-finish victory in the Year 7 girls race in 9.12, just one second in front of runner-up Amy Hinchley (Tarporley High).

Tom Milburn, from Bishop Heber in Malpas, won the Year 7 boys race in 8.49, seeing off the challenge of runner-up Chris Harrop (Tarporley) in 8.56 and third-placed Zac Holland (Bishop Heber) in 8.58.
