WITH a clutch of gold medals and numerous broken records to her name, a talented Chester athlete has had a season she will never forget.

All-rounder Amy Williams, of Dee Banks, is currently number one in the UK under 13s rankings in the pentathlon and long jump, and second in the hurdles.

Despite being only 12 years of age, the West Cheshire AC youngster competed in the U15s section at the AAA Championships at Bedford and came away with a silver medal in the pentathlon. The only athlete to beat her was Berkshire’s Morgan Lake, currently ranked number one in the world in her age group.

Amy, an Abbey Gate College pupil, also took part in the North West Combined Events Championships last month in Manchester, where she triumphed in the U13s pentathlon, breaking the long jump and hurdles records and also gaining a personal best in the high jump. She smashed the pentathlon record by more than 200 points.

Amy has added medal after medal to her growing collection this year.

She is an U15s indoor long jump champion, claimed five individual gold medals at the Cheshire Championships, breaking a long jump record which had stood for 20 years, and also won a string of honours at the ISA National Championships, where her 5.40m leap put her fourth in the all-time UK list for an U13 athlete.

Amy’s appearance at the famous AAAs meeting in Bedford was sealed when she won the northern U15s long jump crown.

Parents Adele and Stuart Williams are extremely proud of their daughter.

Stuart said: “I’d like to thank West Cheshire for their support and also thank Amy’s coaches, Keith Hunter and Geoff Ward, who have been a integral part of her success.”

The pentathlon, a smaller version of the decathlon and heptathlon, sees competitors take part in the high hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and a sprint.
