A TEENAGE athlete from Little Sutton will represent England next month.

Talented West Cheshire AC thrower Kelly Baker will be part of the England team at the Welsh International Meeting at Cardiff on July 31 after powering her way to success at the Northern Track and Field Championships at Sportcity, Manchester.

The 17-year-old, who attends Bishops’ Bluecoat High School in Chester, celebrated a put of 11.88m to win the under 20 women’s regional shot title in Manchester.

Baker is also one of six West Cheshire members who have been selected to compete for Cheshire at next month’s English Schools Track and Field Championships.

Her victory in Manchester was achieved on the back of successes at this year’s Cheshire Schools and Cheshire Clubs' Track and Field Championships at Macclesfield and Trafford respectively.

Baker is coached at West Cheshire AC by Dave McKay who won the Northern Championship men’s javelin title at Manchester with a throw of 64.87m.

McKay also coaches West Cheshire’s Jenni Potter who secured a bronze medal in the U20 women’s hammer with a throw of 38.82m.

Danielle Erskine and Alice McMahon also represented West Cheshire at the Northern Championships, with Erskine pocketing a silver medal in the U20 women’s long jump with 5.22m, and McMahon finishing fourth in the U20 women’s 200m (25.93 seconds) and fifth in the 100m (12.32 seconds).

Dave Alexander of West Cheshire AC teamed up with Wrexham AC duo Daniel Weston and Darren Rowlands to finish second in the Tattenhall Runners Tough Team Race.

Georgia Barlow won the U15 girls 100m (13.3) and 200m (26.8) at West Cheshire AC’s Young Athletes Track and Field League third round match at Blackburn.
