MARK Latham and Georgia Aston-Massey both celebrated a clean sweep at the final round of the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series in Ellesmere Port.

Mark, representing Eaton Primary in Tarporley, claimed the Year 6 boys title by clocking his fastest time of 4 min 57 seconds for the flat course at Stanney Oaks, beating runner-up Billy Young (Helsby Hillside) who posted 5:18, and Elijah Montez-Brown (St Saviour’s) who finished in 5:27.

Georgia Aston-Massey, from Horns Mill Primary in Frodsham, secured her fourth consecutive win in the Y6 girls event with her fastest time of the series – 5:10.

Georgia Barlow (St Bernard’s) captured second spot at the final round race with a time of 5:52 to secure runners-up position overall, and Cora Finlay (St Saviour’s) finished third at the final round while Eden Richardson (Capenhurst), seventh at round four, took third overall.

Anna Todd, Stella Dixon and Isabel Clements, from Acresfield Primary in Chester, won the Y6 girls team title.

Heather Mylchreest (Acresfield) clinched the year four girls title despite finishing second in the final round in 3:37, behind round four winner, Emma Hodgson (Eaton) who finished third overall. Beth McMahon (Mill View, Chester) finished third in this round for runners-up position.

Joseph Morrison (Our Lady’s) won the Y5 boys final race in 5:24 and claimed the overall individual gold medal while Acresfield’s Matthew Garner was third on the day and runner-up overall.

Paul Morrison, from Our Lady’s, grabbed top spot overall in the Y3 boys event after winning the final round race in a time of 3:24.

A group of athletes broke off from their warm-weather training camp in the Algarve to run the Sport Relief Mile in fancy dress, raising £140.

More than 30 runners from West Cheshire AC, Spectrum Striders and Deestriders, together with friends from Poole and Northamptonshire, took part.

West Cheshire’s Dave Crawford ran carrying a fridge decked out as a heavy rocker!

Crawford is training to run the Stoke Half Marathon carrying a fridge to raise money for Help For Heroes as his son is serving with the British Army in Afghanistan.
