THE Chester Spring Five-mile Road Race returns next Wednesday.

The popular race, organised by Ellesmere Port-based West Cheshire AC, will take place from Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton, Chester, from 7pm.

Entries will be open on the day at the enquiry desk on the veranda of the new pavilion near to the start/finish area.

Unattached runners will pay £8 to enter while English Athletics registered club members pay £6 and entries are limited to 400 participants.

West Cheshire are requesting members and friends to turn up to help marshal the course as well as assist at the finishing area.

Jeff Kettle was the first of three West Cheshire finishers at the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

Kettle was 448th with a time of 1hr 33min 50sec, ahead of Mike Perchard (950th, 1:42.35) and Sinead Malone (2,967th, 2:09.56).

Julie Wood completed the Liverpool Half Marathon in 1:50.09 to finish 223rd in the ladies race.

The 2010 London Marathon features seven West Cheshire athletes.

Brian Beattie, Richard Batterham, Chris Rhodes, Max Woods, Neil MacIntyre, Sacha Kendall Woods and Lisa Ailing will all compete in the capital on Sunday, April 25.

Ellesmere Port Running Club’s Dennis Duret held off West Cheshire’s Jeff McQueen as he finished one point ahead in the Borders League Mens Handicap race five.

Entries are open for the Cheshire AA County Track and Field Championships at Macclesfield on May 8-9. Entries close on April 21, and forms are available from West Cheshire AC’s Track Office at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port, on Tuesday and Thursday training nights (6.30-8pm).
