WEST Cheshire AC will be looking to build on their positive start to the Borders Road Running League when they line up for the second round on Sunday (11am start).
The Ellesmere Port and Chester club’s distance-running members will tackle a 5.5 mile course at Birkenhead Park organised by Wallasey AC.
The race will start and finish opposite Birkenhead Sixth Form College, on Park Road West, and competitors will complete four laps of the upper park including the path around the lake.
Andy Starkey led West Cheshire AC’s charge at the opening round staged at Christleton, near Chester, where he posted a time of 33 minutes 31 seconds for the 10km course.
Andy will be aiming to consolidate his fine start to the seven round league series alongside Rob Tudor who finished third in the over 45 veteran men’s age group at Christleton with a time of 33:42.
Andrew Clague, Jeff McQueen, Russell Kirk, Ben Rees, Paul Price, Alan Bevan, Julian Clark and Neil Atkinson will attempt to provide important back-up scoring for the men’s team.
West Cheshire AC’s men are currently third in the Division One standings behind leaders Wirral AC, and second placed Buckley Runners.
And they stand second in the veterans table, which is judged on each clubs first six finishing positions.
Lisa Davies will be aiming to match or better her performance at Christleton where she spearheaded one of West Cheshire AC’s best-ever female team scores.
Lisa, who posted 39:36 for ninth lady position in the Chester event, is hoping to receive support from Rebecca Williams, Sacha Kendall-Woods, Julie Wood, Leslie Billingsley, Kath Osborne and Mary Radford.
The ladies are currently third in the Division Two league table, behind leaders Ellesmere Port, and second placed Wrexham AC.
Entries close on November 27 for this year’s Shell Chester Round The Walls Race, on Boxing Day at Chester Racecourse, (11am start). No entries will be taken on the day. Further details can be obtained at www.westcheshireac.co.uk
Fixtures this weekend include the second round of the Manchester and District Cross Country League on Sunday, at Sherdley Park, St Helens.
