UPTON High School sprinted to a triple success story at the West Cheshire AC Track and Field Schools Cup match.

The Chester school won the overall competition staged by West Cheshire AC which featured 14 secondary schools at the Cheshire Oaks High School track, Ellesmere Port.

Upton also triumphed in the boys competition and shared the girls award with Queen’s.

The Upton boys’ squad tasted victory in both Year 7 and Year 8 events while the Upton girls’ team proved victorious in the Year 9 and Year 10 age groups.

Highlights of Upton’s success included Sam Buckley’s close win over Whitby High in the Y8 boys 100m, and Rory Hardman’s long jump of 4.50m.

Tess McCormick won the Y9 girls’ 800m in 2m 30secs, while Sophie Jones won the girls long jump with a leap of 4.63m.

Year 10 duo Danielle Erskine (4.58m) and Lucinda Dodd (7.61m) took the Y10 long jump and shot put titles respectively.
