WEST Cheshire’s seniors travelled to Trafford at the weekend for the second of a four-match series in the Northern Athletics League.

The club won decisively to lead the table.

Many of the younger athletes had also competed at the Cheshire Schools Championships at Macclesfield the previous day, making it a very tiring weekend.

Richard Stocker had triple success with wins in the hammer, discus and shot.

West Cheshire’s Tamsin O’Kkeefe and Emma Howe secured gold medal performances at the Trafford Open Medal Meeting. O’Keefe won the under 11 girls 600m (1:54.3) and claimed bronze medals in the 150m (23.9) and long jump (3.54m) respectively, while Howe won the U13 girls javelin with 28.78m.

Jenni Potter, of West Cheshire, powered her way to a new hammer personal best and English Schools qualifying mark of 38.91m at the Trafford Grand Prix Meeting, where Emily Ball won the U17 ladies discus with 31m and the shot with 9.73m.

Husband and wife Jason and Jan Chapman represented West Cheshire AC at the Marrakech Half Marathon. Jason finished 1,231st male in one hour 50 minutes 54 seconds, and Jan clocked 1.55:56 for 101st spot in the ladies race.

West Cheshire’s Max Woods completed the Comrades Ultra-Distance 90k race between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in a time of 10.50:55.

Forthcoming fixtures include the English Schools Track and Field Cup match at Stanney on Tuesday, while the Cheshire Schools Minors (Year Seven) Track and Field Championships take place at Crewe on Wednesday.
