SIX West Cheshire AC youngsters were picked to represent the county at a Sportshall athletics event in Manchester.

Anna Crayston, Ewan Bradley, Max Ross, Adam Howe, Will Scott and Michael Ozoemelam competed at the Under 11s Fun In Sportshall Athletics match staged at Sportcity.

Crayston was a member of the Cheshire girls squad that finished fourth in the team event, while Bradley, Ross, Howe, Scott and Ozoemelam combined for the Cheshire boys team who finished second.

Crayston scored 5.17m in the standing triple jump, 40 in the balance beam, finished third in the grand prix event and was fourth in the parlaaf.

Bradley grabbed second position in the obstacle relay, fourth place in the hurdles relay, triple jumped 5.80m and scored 50 in the speed bounce.

Ross hit 12m in the soft javelin, scored 50 seconds in the balance beam, finished fifth in the over and under relay, and was sixth in the grand prix.

Howe secured 1.82m in the standing long jump, finished fifth in the over and under relay, and posted sixth spot in the grand prix.

Scott hit 43cms in the vertical jump and 6m in the chest push, and secured third spot in the six-lap parlaaf and fourth position in the hurdles relay.

Ozoemelam was a member of the winning 4x1 relay team, was third in the 2+2 relay, finished fifth in the ‘hi stepper’ event, and was second in the obstacle relay.

West Cheshire AC will attempt to strengthen their hopes of top-five qualifying team places in all six age groups at this season’s North West Sportshall Finals when they travel to Deeside College this weekend.

The club’s under 15 boys and girls teams are in pole position as they head into Sunday’s next round, to be held at Deeside College (noon start).

Neil Hershaw of West Cheshire AC finished 24th in the Colwyn Bay Twin Piers 10k Road Race with a time of 39:05.

Entries are being accepted for the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race being organised by West Cheshire AC on Wednesday, April 3 (7pm start).

The popular fixture is celebrating its 21st anniversary after the course was modified last year. An entry limit of 500 has been set.

The online entry form can be found by logging onto: www.wcacrr.co.uk. Entries will be taken on the day, subject to the race not being full.

Fixtures this weekend include the Northern Cross Country Championships at Knowsley on Saturday.

The snow which fell over the weekend led to the cancellation of the Four Villages Half Marathon, the Cheshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Nantwich and the Essar West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Races at Stanney.
