SPRINTER Lucy Evans recorded a blistering personal best on Saturday to become one of the fastest women in the UK this year.

The 28-year-old from Saughall clocked 11.61 seconds to win the 100m for Sale Harriers during a UK Women’s Athletics League meeting at Leigh.

Her time is the ninth fastest set by a UK woman in 2011.

Lucy also competed in the 200m, finishing fifth in a personal best time of 23.96secs – the first time she has broken the 24-second barrier.

Her form has improved since she changed coaches last year and she is eyeing glory at the Welsh Championships later this month.

She qualifies for Wales because her father is Welsh.
